Dr. Leena Gupta hails from the city of Bhopal, known globally after the devastating Bhopal Gas Tragedy—a place where she began her journey in medicine. Inspired by her roots, she embarked on her medical career and later immigrated to the United States, where she started her flourishing medical journey at Cook County Hospital, Chicago.
She completed her internal medicine residency at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York. Currently, she practices in California as a hospitalist and critical care physician, specializing in neurocritical care.

Her second book, Colors of Love, a creative collection of 201 poems exploring various dimensions of love, is set to be released soon. Alongside her literary pursuits, she has also embraced visual arts—her paintings have been exhibited and sold at the prestigious Art Festival in Basel, Switzerland.
Dr. Gupta is also a dedicated contributor to the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), a national organization representing over 10,000 physicians. Her leadership roles include serving as Chair of the Publication Committee, Regional Director for the Western Zone, and spearheading Global Health Summits in India, where she conducted ENLS courses and medical jeopardy sessions for medical students and physicians within the Indian medical diaspora.
Dr. Gupta commitment to community service is equally commendable. She has led numerous volunteering initiatives, including blanket and toy drives for underserved communities, blood donation camps for hospitals and the Red Cross, and ongoing involvement with SEWA International as a Physician Director in Northern California. Additionally, Dr. Gupta is the President of AAPIWEST, actively organizing monthly educational, cultural, and social events for the local physician community in Northern California—events that are well-planned, engaging, and widely attended.
With a strong foundation in education and qualifications, Dr. Gupta continues to work in acute care hospital settings including ER and ICU. Her career is highlighted by medical excellence, leadership roles, and a deep commitment to community involvement, philanthropy, and mentorship. Her work with SEWA International, her volunteer efforts, and her contributions to healthcare and the arts have earned her immense respect and numerous accolades and recognitions.

Blanket and Toy Drives for Homeless Shelters
She has hosted and mentored premed students at her residence, organized blanket and toy drives for homeless shelters, and led fundraising efforts for Bhopal gas tragedy victims and LA fire relief in 2025.
Being brought up in India in Bhopal, gives me the maturity to understanding our roots and culture to promote our organization.
I have been passionately involved with AAPI for several years and passionate, about serving this organization and its members with integrity, truthfulness, and strong ethical values!
I believe in versatility in member activities and giving each member an opportunities to be heard, grow and flourish. I believe in transparency amongst AAPI officers and AAPI members.
